<itunes:subtitle>In this episode we explore some of the history of the modern game of golf, how through a modicum of good fortune, leadership and a supporting cast of extraordinary golfers, St Andrews became the home of golf. Its' influence then spread far and wide in developing the game of golf around the world.</itunes:subtitle>

<description>Roger McStravick is a man from Northern Ireland who has been based in St Andrews for over twenty years, he has, so far, won the USGA Herbert Warren Wind Book Award on two occasions, for books focussed on Old Tom Morris and the St.Andrews Road War in 1879 (a war that involved a title dispute regarding potential encroachment onto the fabled turf of the old course).
I cannot think of many other people that know as much about St Andrews, Allan Robertson, Hugh Lyon Playfair, The Open Championship, the Morris', the Park's, Jamie Anderson et al (I've left quite a few protagonists out here I know).
Roger is the ideal guest to explore the genesis of modern golf and how an ancient scottish pastime has been adopted around the world.
We look at the history of the game and introduce some of the aforementioned characters that influenced the direction and the destination of where we find the game of golf today.
We really hope you enjoy the episode!

<description>In this episode we are joined by Rosapenna Golf Resort's Director of Golf Frank Casey Junior, Clyde Johnson from Cunnin Golf Design and Ally McIntosh our regular architecture contributor.
Frank Casey has been steeped in Irish golf ever since his mother and father bought the Rosapenna Golf Resort in the early 1980's. An accomplished golfer in his own right, Frank has led the Golf Operations team at Rosapenna since 2005. He has travelled far and wide and brought many of those experiences back to Downings to the benefit of visiting golfers and members alike.
Clyde Johnson is a course designer, shaper and finisher extraordinaire. Clyde first saw the St. Patrick's site back in 2009 as he looked longingly over the fence from the Old Tom Morris course. Mr Johnson was intimately involved in the development of the St Patrick's project from the initial mow out of fairways in 2018 right through to desiging, building and photographing the site.
We are tremendously excited to present the St Patrick's Links story for your enjoyment!
