Nick Edmund

Special guest

Nick Edmund is the stereotypical golf tragic, originally from Exeter in the South-West of England, despite being born into a non golfing family he was bitten by the golf bug when some friends introduced him to the game. The Open Championship in 1976 would afford the young Edmund an opportunity to see the best golfers of the day compete over the toasted fairways of Birkdale. It was here that a swashbuckling 19 year old Severiano Ballesteros would announce himself to the world in finishing second to Johnny Miller, a 15 year old Edmund was smitten by Seve's genious.

Edmund would study law at the University of Bristol, subsequently moving to London in furtherance of a career as a criminal barrister. It was at this point that an enterprising friend from University engaged him to write the first of 13 annual golf publications entitled Following the Fairways. The books explored great golf in the UK and Ireland in addition to recommending where to stay, eat and embibe. Nick would go on to write for Links Magazine in addition to writing and editing a further 14 books. He most recently edited David Cannon's book on Seve Ballesteros.

Nick's career in golf would next lead in the direction of golf design as Managing Director of Faldo Design for fifteen years from 1997.

A Macmillan Cancer Trust fund raiser in 2012 would act as a catalyst to the next chapter of this story. At the time Edmund had not yet been effected by cancer, however, through May 2022, he is now a four time diagnosed cancer survivor. Throughout his diagnoses he has founded the Global Golf 4 Cancer initiative, embarked on a series of walks through Ireland, Scotland and Spain and has flown the GG4C flag on 6 continents.

We are very grateful to Nick for joining us to share his story.
