Gavin Bottrell

Special guest

Gavin Bottrell is one of the worlds leading authorities on feathery balls. For the past 20 years , through trial and error, he has been engaged in developing the processes, methodologies and skills to enable him to replicate the performance characteristics of feathery ball manufacture in an attempt to recreate the lost art of feathery ball manufacture.

Starting as a hobby collector of hickory shafted clubs in the late 1990's, his engineering mind was sparked when he first visited the R&A golf museum in St. Andrews. Having been inspired by this ancient collection he would go on to found Timewarp Golf, a hickory club hire, antique and restoration business based in Warwickshire, England.

He also resolved to attempt to manufacture a feathery ball that would perform comparitively to its ancient counterpart. 20 years and 43 iterations later, Gavin has reached his goal.... his story is niche, but ever so fascinating.
